Bunbury Music Festival and MWxSW: A Match Made in Heaven

Talk about big news: The Bunbury Music Festival has signed on as the presenting sponsor for Midwest by Southwest (MWxSW), our trek to SXSW. Better still: they’re sending their Bunbury Bee mascot along for the ride to introduce fans along the way to the midwest’s newest big summer festival.

The Bunbury Music Festival is a brand new Summer music festival in Cincinnati that will take place on Sawyer Point and that’s awesome.  Think: Forecastle on steroids, or Bonaroo on the river.  Bill Donabedian, who founded the Midpoint Music Festival, is behind this new fest, and like all big ideas, we totally love it.  It was meant to bee! We couldn’t “bee” happier, clearly we’re a little beeside ourselves…  OK, enough puns!

MWxSW Tour Focus: The Counter Rhythm Group Hooks it Up!

Before we DIY, we look around first, so when we thought about booking  dates for our Midwest By Southwest Tour, we quickly realized Brian Penick’s company, The Counter Rhythm Group was the perfect partner. Today we’re pleased to announce that Wussy, The Sundresses, The Whiskey Daredevils and Oh My Me have a nice string of shows on the way down and back from SXSW. Their help enabled us to focus on all the other parts of the puzzle that is Midwest By Southwest.

This trip is unconventional on a number of levels and TCRG handled it all well. As great as the bands are, booking four out-of-town bands in cities on the route to/from SXSW is a tough sell. Especially when every other band in the country is headed to the same place.  Some of these markets are places the bands have never performed before, making it an even bigger challenge.  TCRG secured contracts and gate deals for all the venues and assisted ANP in promoting the tour dates in each market (the promotional work is actually just starting). For any band you’re looking for assistance booking their own tours, The Counter Rhythm Group might be a good option.

Giant Wow at Full Throttle

Giant Wow’s had a great year in licensing, but their latest placement opens new territory for the band and The Party with really natural connections: Rock music, amusements and speed meet at Full Throttle Indoor Karting.

The commercial spot is above, a promotional trailer below…

MWxSW Partner: Reveal Concepts

Brian Kitzmiller’s events marketing company Reveal Concepts partnered with The All Night Party to find sponsors and support for our Midwest by Southwest Tour. It’s not an easy job: our approach to the tour is unique, focused more on Cincinnati and stops along the way than Austin and the national music press most bands and sponsors seek out at SXSW. So our line up and promotion naturally creates a lot of regional value for sponsors, including national companies with headquarters and presence in Cincinnati.

Brian’s not just a marketing guy, he’s also a “band guy”, so he truly gets it. Music connects in ways conventional media cannot. We’re lucky to have a partner who can break it down, with deep contacts in event and experience marketing from his years at City Beat. Keep your eye on this space… we know he’ll deliver!

Radius Continues with Remix Contest

Remember those giant posters, murals and action-hero figures scattered around downtown during MPMF?. “What Is Radius?” is a crowd-sourced animation about identity, inspired and driven by images created fans during the festival (entries rewarded with music from 15 great bands). Production is underway, and remixes of the six selected songs are being “crowd sourced” to fans (bonus: Radius pays $50 for the six mixes that are actually used in the final film).

Just go to http://www.whatisradius.com/ select an artist and enter each scene to grab tracks and animatics (moving “story board” sketches) of the scenes for each song. Then upload your remix on the same website where the files are hosted. The filmmakers will choose the mix that works best under the final footage. So if you have a DAW or just want to try your hand at remixing, hit http://www.whatisradius.com/, download tracks from your favorite bands (or all of them!) and sound off!

Giving Thanks @ 2011 CEAs

The All Night Party’s blessed with an embarrassment of riches, when it comes to friends, partners and great projects to work on. All this comes down to where we live, surrounded by many amazing artists. Each year the Cincinnati Entertainment Awards make this impossible to ignore – from the moment you walk up the Fashion Trashie runway (televised inside, with hosts Melissa and Dana Fairmount on the big screen) through the last chords of killer bands on the stage (kicked off by Pomegranates, closed out by Wussy). In between the entire scene celebrates the great music we’ve made together over the past year, on stages and in studios all around town.

In 2011 we’ve had the opportunity to work with more bands than ever before. Our MPMF program skipped the showcase, and put on two in-studio UltraSessions, then encompassed the whole festival at night with our MPMF Guide. Partnering with RippleFX Sonic Arts and Possible Worldwide, we celebrated 15 bands on posters, billboards and online providing a sound track for WhatIsRadius? the worlds first crowd-sourced film (in the worlds “Most Social City” according to Mashable). More recently we’ve been helping the Cincinnati USA Music Heritage Foundation develop a new website and membership programs. We’re thankful to live in a place where we can work with great artists and partners on projects like this.

With all that action, combined with our usual mastering, product design and licensing work, we had a lot of celebrating to do last night. So as Thanksgiving approaches, we’d like to recognize all the CEA nominees we’ve worked with, and thank you all for working so hard and dreaming so big! Last night it was great to cheer for (in no particular order): The Tammy Whynots, Shiny and the Spoon, Magnolia Mountain, Daniel Martin MooreThe Pinstripes, Ron Esposito, The Guitars, The Kickaways, The Greenhornes, Two Headed Dog, The Seedy Seeds, The Harlequins, The Chocolate Horse, Zachary Burns Band, Freekbass, You, You’re Awesome, Kry Kids, Pop Empire, The Dukes Are Dead, 500 Miles to Memphis, The Seedy Seeds, and Vaudeville Freud. It’s an honor and privilege to work with so many of the best bands in the region, and call you our friends.
It’s been a great year in Cincinnati music, and we look forward to an even better 2012.

Congratulations and all the best,

Your Partners at The All Night Party

What Is Radius?

Why bury the lede: Radius is the world’s first game-sourced film being assembled by RippleFX Films from photos and materials generated by fans participating in the SCVNGR and mobile web based game during MPMF.11. It’s slated for release in February 2012, and was sponsored by a group of  local companies including marketing giant Possible Worldwide, Sonic Arts, Lightborne Communications, MPMF and of course, musicated by The All Night Party with the help of 15 great local bands, featured separately on the posters (as shown here).

During MPMF we weren’t really allowed to say much about it. But MPMF is over, the game completed, and we’re proud to show off (and explain) what all the beautiful billboards, installations and posters hung around the festival and midway this year were all about… so now that you know, enjoy the show.

Stay tuned for the release in February!

Steve Jobs, 1955-2011

We’ve lost many heroes this year – Two World Changers on the same day. We learned yesterday Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth, who fought for civil rights and justice right here in Cincinnati passed away in his home town Birmingham, Alabama. And now we’re deeply saddened by the loss of Steve Jobs… our company was built with his tools, and his platform enabled us to become profitable in our second year during this depression. We’ve been inspired by his vision and are literally powered by things he imagined and built. It’s in our DNA as a company (and as people)… we’ll never forget and always be grateful. We thank Steve Jobs for making the world a better place, more beautiful and connected than ever before. Time for the rest of us to pick up the slack.

WCPO Discovers mpmf.theallnightparty.com Mobile Guide App

Always great to be noticed… ANP partner Brian Niesz’ hard work on the Midpoint Mobile Guide web-app is apparently a hit, and has quickly become the festival’s unofficial way-finder extraordinaire! Now even Channel 9/WCPO is in on the fun.

Get it at mpmf.theallnightparty.com on your mobile device. On iPhones, click the forward button on your browser to “Add to Home Screen” – this 1) allows you to get to the guide from your home screen and 2) doesn’t open in a browser and just runs like an app. In other words, faster than downloading a regular app from the App Store, and it works on ANY smartphone, not just iPhones.

If you’ve been checking it out for awhile, you probably noticed it sprouted 2 new buttons at the start of MPMF. This is normal – The All Night Party loves to build “living products” that work out of the box, and do cool stuff, but get better with time. This time we added a festival guide, with a few select shows by our friends, and an info link for us and the app.  No point remaining strangers!
