Hypebot’s posted this piece on 5 Ways Your Band Can Avoid The Twitter Time Suck.  As someone whose spent every day pushing pixels (cleverly linked to sound and music!), I struggle getting off the web at startup, like everyone else.  It’s hard: a zillion emails,  pages of Facebook updates, and now Tweets from everywhere.  It never ends.  At the same time we have to stay wired to stay employed.  It’s easier to say “focused” than to stay focused.

These seem common sense, but are good guiding rules, not just for tweets, but blogging and surfing if you’re challenged for time.  The most important of their five ideas: Take relationships into the real world.  For professional musicians, your main job is winning fans.  Period.  In sales there’s a concept that every sentence should be “closing” the deal.  In social media, you should focus just as strongly on “making it real.”
