The All Night Party is proudly launching our third CD-based release, Fists of Love’s eponymous debut EP at The Northside Tavern on Saturday, March 20, with help from Wussy and DJ/producer/bon vivant, Brian Olive.  The record features Donna Rubin, Chris Schadler, and Cedric Rose and  while mostly-recorded by Brian Olive, the release also includes 2 tracks recorded at Ultrasuede by the band’s latest member, bassist John Curley.  It’s a killer record, so help us give our new baby a worthy send-off.
Join the coming-out party for Cincy’s hottest new band!  There’s no excuse not to come out and support the band – it’s a free show!  Northside Tavern, Saturday March 20.  Yes!

Indie Invasion! The Sundresses & mallory @ The Mainstay!

Yes, you read it right: The best indie rock around returns to Downtown Cincy at The Mainstay, with The Sundresses, and mallory.  On Saturday February 27, the new CincySounds series kicks off, sponsored by Midpoint Music Festival (MPMF), and of course The All Night Party, thanks to new local promoters, Queen City Kings.
No, it’s not SGH or Northside Tavern or any conventional venue noted for hosting the best original bands.  And that’s the point!  Cincy is over-represented by amazing bands, who local fans remain unaware of, outside big events like MPMF.  The Cincy Sound series will push through the barriers, bringing the noise to the burbs, invading venues like Mainstay to start winning new fans.  It’s hard work that takes a village.  You can help: Invade The Mainstay this Saturday!
This event will be followed by others, deep in the heart of the burbs. Stay tuned: we’re booking Play By Play events in Silverton, and starting to work on clubs all around town.  No ‘burb will be neglected.
The truth is Cincy bands get more love and respect on the road than they get at home.  It’s been like this for as long as I can remember, but it’s been at least 20 years since anyone seriously tried to push the rock outside city limits.  With your help, we can change this!

Party on the Radio: ANP on ‘VXU Sunday@7!

Ever since we launched people have been asking all of us about this new venture, The All Night Party.  This Sunday, January 10 at 7PM founding partners Brad Loans and Dave Davis are interviewed by Chelsea VandeDrink on 91.7 WVXU’s Around Cincinnati.

We continue to be pleased and amazed by the community we live in.  Around Cincinnati and it’s long-time host Lee Hay are a local arts institution, and always on top of the entire scene (not just music, but literature, poetry, dance, and visual arts).  And Chelsea not only works on-air, but is one of the area’s top engineers, working at Corbett Studios (located in the broadcast center housing WGUC, WVXU and WCET), and has been one of our first call’s for advice on tech, and community-building projects in recording since she moved to Cincinnati from St. Louis.  It’s wonderful to be recognized on Around Cincinnati less than 6 months after our public launch!

Check out the first broadcast interview about our company on Sunday 1/10/10 at 7PM on WVXU.

New Years Thanksgiving

As we enter the new decade, we at The All Night Party would like to thank all the bands, fans, and Cincy musical community for welcoming us so warmly into the business.  We’re inventing a new role, and a new kind of label, so we continue to be amazed at the support we’ve received.

It would be impossible to list everyone whose helped us out over the past year, because so many have contributed to our success.  Whether we asked for it or not, the musical community’s been there for us from the start.  Please know we’re grateful to be part of this community, and thankful for theopportunities that arose to to serve you over the past year.  We’ll work hard in 2010 to justify your faith in us, and return the many favors we’ve been granted.

There are a ton of shows tonight – if you hook up with the Grasshopper Juice party bus you don’t even have to choose (it runs between clubs!), so there’s no excuse not to catch a great band this New Years Eve.  Our calendar lists some of our faves, but that’s the tip of an amazing musical iceberg.  Just have fun (and be safe).

See you in 2010.  We’re definitely ready!

mallory’s Return Rates CB’s “Hero of the Zeros”

We second all of Mike Breen’s highlights of a pretty great decade for Music in Cincinnati, CityBeat’s Heros of the Zeros, but are especially glad Mike noticed the Return of mallory.  We felt the same way, and jumped at the chance to release “Before it Grows…” on our imprint.

Thanks Mike!  We think so too.

The Sundresses Sell Out!

sundressestouristNo, silly, not that way.  The good way: Thier debut, The Only Tourist In Town has officially sold out it’s initial pressing, leaving Barkinghaus as the only CD-based product for Cincy’s beloved Sundresses!

Not to worry: You can still get it digitally, on iTunes and Amazon.  And  The All Night Party’s been fretting over the dwindling supply since our founding, so the inevitable reissue is on it’s way.

But in the meantime, stay tuned for brand new music from The Sundresses in 2009.

2009 CEAs Rock The Scene

8465No, I’m not talking about the slamming performances turned in by the likes of The Lions Rampant, You, You’re Awesome, Mark Utley & Magnolia Mountain,  II Juicy, Small Time Crooks and Brian Olive.  Nor is it unusual for Cincy’s stars to come out on CEA night: aside from hosts and presenters including Channel 12’s Jen Dalton, Jim Tarbell, Aaron Sharpe, Marvin Hawkins (we even saw freshly minted councilwoman, Laurie Quinlivan at the show!).  Fans are used to hearing about things like the King Memorial and Herzog Studios plaque from folks like Elliot Ruther, and Brian Powers, with support of legendary King Records drummer Phillip Paul, Patti Collins, and Russell Driver.  What no one expected was The Seedy Seed’s sweep – 3/3 in categories they were nominated!

What’s more, fresh, young bands slinging new sounds broke through this year.  You, You’re Awesome, Bad Veins, and the aforementioned Seeds suggest a seismic shift to a modern sound.  Cincy’s traditionally powerful Americana and Indie genres are merging with electronica and integrating technology in very human ways.  The Seedy Seeds are the tip of that iceberg.  But under the water line, bands like the J. Dorsey Blues Revival are redefining old genres with new tricks (in a town with a number of great blues bands, this category is always hard-fought).  Jazz has found a new style and venue here, courtesy of the Northside Jazz Ensemble’s regular gig at the Northside Tavern (following a trend pioneered up the street, with the Comet Blue Grass All Stars‘ Bluegrass Sundays).

Lets not forget the nominees who didn’t win.  When there are shifts this dramatic, it’s easy to miss change that didn’t happen.  Mack West surely gave perennial champ, Dallas Moore, a run in the Country category.  Wussy, The Sundresses, The Hiders, Jake Speed, and The Lions Rampant all pushed boundaries in their genres this year, as fan/voters faced an embarrassment of musical riches.  For a town Cincinnati’s size it’s amazing to be able to field legitimate competitors in so many genres.

MISSION OF BURMA STRIKE WOXY!

OK, forgive me for being speechless.  But something like a revelation is happening as I type: MISSION OF BURMA is rawking ANP partner Brian Niesz’ spanking new room at WOXY with the second live Lounge Act from the new digs in Austin (Royal Bangs did the first).  What a way to break in a room!

While the first track was a little rough, things were dialed in for the second, and what’s coming through my tiny laptop speakers is blowing my mind (mix courtesy of Shellac’s Bob Weston).  Enough raving!  Go to WOXY and download this Lounge Act asap… it’s a keeper!

Very Extremely Dangerous Mastering

Shake It Record’s new series, Very Extremely Dangerous Singles gets plenty of love in this week’s CityBeat, courtesy of Steve Rosen.  Honoring legendary Eddie Hinton, this series is truly unique, and we’re privileged to be involved.  While our buddy Greg Dulli’s contribution, Cover Me, arrived ready to go, we’ve been blessed with the good fortune to master the next two parts of the series!

We’re pleased to report that The Drive By Trucker’s Everybody Needs Love and Where’s Eddie? are two great sides, the latter being an original tribute track from the Truckers.  Sweet!  Wussy’s 300 Pounds of Hungry is a major departure for the band… hairy, experimental stuff, reminding me more of an early Ass Ponys jam than anything the band has done to date… maybe even closer to the band I first saw Chuck Cleaver in, The Lunch Buddies (or was Gomez first?).  The B side, Breakfast in Bed is possibly the best Wussy song ever.

We truly can’t wait for the next installment… these are the records that make mastering fun!
